Let My People Go!
France  2011, 96 min

A wild comedy about a lovesick young man stuck in the craziness of his unconventional French Jewish family.

Definitely the feel-good flick of the festival, Let My people Go! is a rollicking candy-colored romantic comedy about a love-lorn gay man and his wildly dysfunctional French Jewish family. Sweet as a button Ruben (Nicolas Maury) is living in Finland and madly in love with his hunky blond boyfriend Teemu. But when a misunderstanding between the two turns into an argument, Ruben soon finds himself returning to Paris and into the not so secure arms of his loving but wacky family. Love sick, he soon has other worries—not the least of which is Rabbi Goldberg, a horny-as-a-teenager 70-year-old who pursues Reuben with the determination of Pepé Le Pew. Will Reuben ever see his beloved? Will his family drive him crazy? Will the Rabbi get his Penelope? All are answered in this funny, heart-warming farce which was co-written by gay screenwriter/director Christophe Honoré (Love Songs, Ma Mere) and is peppered with a cast of seasoned French and Spanish acting veterans including Carmen Maura (Volver, 800 Bullets, Law of Desire), Jean-Luc Bideau (The Red Violin, Jonah Will be 25 in the Year 2000); Aurore Clément (Paris, Texas; Apocalypse Now), Jean-François Stévenin (Brotherhood of the Wolf, 36 Fillette) and many others. (French with English subtitles) -- Raymond Murray
